In
an interview at the 1998 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, bassist
extroardinaire, George Porter Jr. (of Meters fame), said that Galactic
is the future of New Orleans music. When these four young purveyors
of funk initially got together they cut their teeth on a few dozen
old Meters instrumentals, making sure the foundation was solid.
Today they write many of their own songs but still recognize their
roots, which is why they chose to put the supergalactic spin on
this Dirty Dozen Brass Band song called "Charlie Dozen", complete
with the twin sax attack by Ben Ellman and Jason Mingledorff.
