DOWNLOAD: TAKE IT TO THE STREET (THE MUSIC)![]() To
kick things off with my new digital label Moore Music,
I am releasing Take
It To The Street (The Music), the music from my 'Take
It To The Street' book and DVD project. The music was
recorded with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and
features George Porter Jr. and Ivan
Neville on select tracks.
I've always enjoyed listening back to the music we recorded for the project. For the book and DVD, only a few tunes could be included on each due to space issues and the tunes needed to be faded out after a few minutes. Included here is the majority of the tunes from the project in their entirety including a couple of bonus tracks that didn't make it into the original project. As I was growing up and developing musically in New Orleans it was always a dream of mine to play with members or the Dirty Dozen and the Meters. My dad used to come into my bedroom and listen to me practice to the Dozen's 'Voodoo' and the Meters' 'Look-a Py Py' albums. As you can imagine it was quite a thrill for me to play this music for this project with the Dozen and George Porter Jr. I hope you all enjoy hearing this music as much as I enjoyed playing it. -Stanton

RELEASE: 'FROM THE CORNER TO THE BLOCK' Galactic's 'From
The Corner To The Block' is in stores now! Galactic's follow up to 'Ruckus' shows the band
pushing their limits further than ever, blending their trademark funk with
cherry picked guest list of hip-hop's most dynamic artists along with an
assortment of other talented artists. The record features an all-star cast
of vocalists such Juvenile, Chali
2na (of Jurassic 5), Lyrics
Born, Boots
Riley (of the Coup), Mr.
Lif, Blackalicious' Gift
of Gab, Ladybug Mecca from Digable Planets and many more.
Here is some of what has been written - "Awesome" - The Fader Magazine " ...(Galactic) enlists a monster guest list of MCs to rock over its
densest grooves to date" - Billboard "...all thick retro soul and funk, while rappers like Lyrics Born, Boots Riley and Gift of Gab swing wonderfully in the pocket with their new pals. The horn-adorned band and MCs alike let loose like they couldn't give a shit how much street cred the collaboration earns them, as long as it makes listeners move." - Playboy "Almost every tune is a hip-hop classic, welding vibrant story telling, strong voices and agile worldplay to a rhythmic and melodic genius that is simply galactic". - Harp Magazine "Its the shit." - Urb Magazine. |

IT TO THE STREETS INSTRUCTIONAL DVD'S![]() VOTED
#2 DVD IN THE MODERN DRUMMER READER'S POLLStanton has released two instructional drumming DVD's. The first DVD is A Traditional Approach to New Orleans Drumming which demonstrates the elements of traditional New Orleans drumming and provides many performance examples that include members of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, George Porter and Ivan Neville. Stanton also includes a bonus section with legendary New Orleans drummer Johnny Vidacovich, providing a deeper look into the feel and colorful elements of this style. The second DVD is A Modern Approach to New Orleans Drumming which demonstrates how to blend contemporary ideas such as simple stickings, linear drumming and the combination of other styles with the traditional Second Line to create a new approach to New Orleans drumming. He shares his ideas on how to bring character to a groove by paying attention to details and adding inflection while staying true to the underlying rhythmic structure. Also included is Stanton's personal approach to incorporating Mambo, Guaguanco, Shuffle, Boogaloo, Bossa-nova and Samba with Second Line drumming to add a modern and progressive flair to his playing. ON NEW GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING ALBUM BY IRMA THOMAS
Stanton
is part of an all-star cast of Louisiana musicians who played on the new
grammy award-winning album by Irma Thomas entitled After the Rain. The
Soul Queen of New Orleans brings her rich and resonant vocals to a surprisingly
varied repertoire that spans 75 years of American songwriting, the common
thread being Irma's soulful and direct-from-the-heart delivery. Recorded
at rural Dockside Studio in Maurice, Louisiana only months after Hurricane
Katrina, 'After the Rain' is a remarkable declaration of resilience,
presenting Irma Thomas at her very best. |

ROBERT
WALTER - SUPER HEAVY ORGAN Stanton
contributes to funky keyboardist Robert Walter's latest release Super
Heavy Organ recorded in New Orleans. In addition to Stanton, Walter
chose top musicians to help the vibe, such as drummers Johnny Vidacovich
and bassist James Singleton. “I had been performing in New Orleans
for years. As a kid I was obsessed with the music coming out of this city.
I made a decision to come here and experience it first hand. It’s
the best move I have ever made. I have been lucky enough to record an album
with some of my favorite musicians, people who have influenced me,”
remarks Walter. “My concept was not to imitate New Orleans music of
the past, but to infuse the tradition with my own ideas,” he describes.
The resulting music is both exploratory and modern while maintaining its
ties to the heritage of jazz. It is unquestionably innovative and funky
at the same time. Check out www.RobertWalter.com
